Purpose: To ensure that BPI alumni can access up to $1,200 COVID stimulus support administered through the IRS.
How Does it Work?
For people who have filed taxes, the IRS will use addresses and direct deposit information from the 2019 tax filing if it’s been submitted or the 2018 filing if it’s been submitted.
For some people not required to file, the IRS will use information from the Social Security Administration for people receiving retirement, disability, or survivor benefits.
But I Haven’t Filed My 2018 or 2019 Taxes!
How to ensure you get the stimulus payment depends on your personal situation:
-
I receive social security disability, retirement, or survivor benefits
You’ll receive the stimulus payment the same way you receive social security.
-
My income in 2019 was under $12,200 ($24,400 for married couples) or I was not required to file taxes for another reason
You can complete a short form to make sure the IRS has the information necessary to send your payment: https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/non-filers-enter-payment-info-here
Ask a BPI team member if you’d like help completing this form.
-
My income in 2019 was more than $12,200 ($24,400 for married couples) and $69,000 or less
You can file your 2019 taxes for free using the ordinary “free file” tools made available by the IRS: https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/
If you’re uncomfortable using this tool, a BPI volunteer will help prepare your taxes. Ask a BPI team member for the form and to start the process!
- I didn’t file taxes and earned more than $69,000, have questions, or am uncertain how to file taxes on my own
A BPI volunteer will help prepare your taxes! Ask a BPI team member for the form and to start the process.
