As a society there are certain things that we think we know pretty well. One would be that with hardened and violent criminals, there really isn’t much you can do but put them behind bars, keep them away from the rest of us, and hope that these long jail sentences will deter others from following down the same road. But then along comes people like my next guest who takes that thinking and absolutely turns it on its head. He is Max Kenner, the founder and executive director of a remarkable organizations, the Bard Prison Initiative.
